Road to Rio in 2015; World Championships in october in Doha

2015 is a packed year for AIBA, and the busiest one in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games era with many challenges for the elite athletes who have aims for qualification. AIBA World Boxing Championships The most important event of the year will be the AIBA World Boxing Championships, which will be held from October 5th – 18th, and the event will emanate from Doha, Qatar. 23 of the best men’s athletes from the Championships qualify for Rio 2016, and one of the most important questions of the event will be finding out who can reach the amazing level of Khazakstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov, the AIBA Best Male Boxer of 2013 and 2014.

Further AIBA World Championships in 2015

The next edition of the AIBA Junior World Championships is scheduled for St. Petersburg in Russia at the beginning of September. Boxers who were born in 1999 and 2000 will be eligible to compete in the Championships in the Russian historical city, which was the host of the Sportaccord World Combat Games in 2013. The third edition of the AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior Continental Championships will be the first AIBA event in 2015. Chinese Taipei has never hosted an AIBA event previously, but the city of Taipei won the bidding process for the AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior Continental Championships. The possible stars of that event could be home favourite, and AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion Chen Nien Chin, plus Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Champions Jajaira Gonzalez of America, and China’s Chang Yuan. Multisport events in 2015 Baku will be the host of the first ever 15 weight class European Games in June, where five women’s weight categories – 51 kg, 54 kg, 60 kg, 64 kg, 75 kg – are in the official program besides ten men’s weight classes. Toronto will be the host of the Panamerican Games in July, where the boxing tournament has been scheduled for both genders. The All Africa Games is scheduled in the city of Brazzaville, Congo for September, while the Oceania region will also be hosting two multisport events in 2015, firstly the South Pacific Games which takes place in Port Moresby, Papua New-Guinea, followed by the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Samoa in September.
Continental events in 2015
Sofia will be the host of the EUBC European Continental Championships in August, and Bangkok, the host of the 1991 Asian Continental Championships more than twenty years holds the new ASBC edition in July.
